Granite Heat Resistance
Granite resists heat. Even a hot pan placed on the top of the counter cannot damage it.
Interesting enough, the melting point of Granite is 2210o to 2300o F (1210o to 1260o Celsius) while you cook your steak at about 350o to 450oF (177o to 232o Celsius). You may feel further comfort about granite’s heat resistant properties when you know that Steel starts melting at 2498o F (1370o C).When you need to set down a hot pan quick, Granite can take the heat without being harmed. In the washroom, setting a hair curler on the counter won’t be an issue.
Granite stain resistance
If granite is properly sealed, it becomes virtually stain proof. The sealing can be properly done by a professional installer so that it can maintain its beauty and attractive look always.
Sealing, however, does not make any countertop impervious. Damage from impact or acid etching will still be possible.
Granite countertop edge profiles.
A properly chosen edge profile adds effect to the beauty of a natural piece of stone surface and coordinates it into the general plan of the room. Consider the
space where the slab will be used. In a case where rounded corners are chosen, consider making use of rounded edges like a bullnose or pencil edge to tie things together. If straight lines are common, straight, beveled, or chamfered edges may be the best choice. Roman Ogee and other specialty edges can be used to
compliment cabinet trim or other architectural details.
With the correct edge detail, your slab is certain to make a striking and lasting impression. There are numerous varieties of edges in regards to thickness – going from 3/4″ (2cm) and 1-1/4″ (3cm) thick to 1-1/2″ (4cm) laminated
